Optimizing Intelsat’s Ground Network Capacity and Reliability with Fiber
In its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of partners and customers and responding to expanding demands for capacity, Intelsat is constantly working to elevate the speed, scale, and reliability of its network.
While Intelsat may be an owner and operator of satellites, currently managing more than 55 satellites in orbit, the company’s ability to deliver value-added connectivity solutions to a widening range of users is just as dependent on the strength and quality of its terrestrial network.
For the terrestrial network to operate with maximum effectiveness, Intelsat’s teleports and PoPs must be connected at all times. All ground-based assets located around the world must be able to transmit large volumes of data with speed, reliability, and without interruption.
In this new video, Intelsat executives explain how leveraging fiber networking solutions from Lumen Technologies, a telecommunications provider of network services, cloud solutions, and security, has strengthened and modernized the company’s ground-based network, enabling Intelsat to increase capacity, reduce costs, and optimize network resources.
Today, Intelsat transmits an average of 650 terabytes of traffic across more than 200,000 miles of fiber. In working with Lumen, Intelsat is able to extract maximum value from its satellites in orbit and ultimately deliver a range of high value connectivity solutions to customers without any compromise in service quality.
