Intelsat Welcomes Euronews to its FAST Channel Lineup on Galaxy 19
Euronews is latest broadcaster to bring FAST channels to the Intelsat Galaxy 19 (G-19) platform. This leading international news channel in Europe provides content to over 400 million households across 160 countries in 17 different languages. Euronews provides the latest updates in politics, business, culture, travel, health, tech, and innovation, all from a pan-European perspective.
Euronews English and Euronews Spanish are now available to G-19 viewers in addition to the WeDo Big Stories channel, which launched on G-19 earlier in 2024.
An increasing number of broadcasters are learning the value of FAST. Euronews has seen remarkable success in the FAST TV space, boasting 60 million hours streamed annually, reaching over 400 million active users or connected devices, and strong engagement metrics.
Free advertising supported television (FAST) is one of the fastest growing segments in the media and entertainment industry. In the United States alone, there are nearly 2,000 unique FAST channels available, with one in three Americans now regularly watching content generated from a FAST provider.
FAST channels are gaining momentum due to the fragmentation and cost of traditional over-the-top services. For consumers, they have many options for streaming apps that all have monthly fees. Many industry observers are predicting that FAST will become the preferred viewing option by 2030. The evolution of FAST channels from a niche market to a transformational media phenomenon is due to their adaptability to the viewer’s demand for variety and access to content, complementing traditional linear TV and streaming packages.
Most viewers watch FAST content through an internet connection and connected TV. Satellite is now playing a key role in distribution by reaching all viewers, including those who are without a reliable broadband connection and those who do not have a connected device.
Intelsat’s G-19 provides broadcasters with a satellite platform for FAST channel distribution and is an excellent option for broadcasters looking to expand their FAST channel distribution beyond connected devices, providing access to an audience that is already watching free content.
FAST remains a growing market and all signs point to it becoming a staple for consumers. As the market matures, satellite will play a key role in opening new revenue streams and unleashing considerable potential for FAST channel providers.
