Intelsat and SoftBank Corp. have successfully completed the first phase of testing for seamless 5G handoffs between satellite and cellular networks, marking a significant step in their joint effort to develop a global roaming network. This milestone was demonstrated through a connected-vehicle test, where off-the-shelf SD-WAN solutions were used to integrate Intelsat’s FlexMove Fleet service with public 5G cellular service. The trial highlights the potential for uninterrupted connectivity across different network infrastructures, paving the way for advanced mobile communications and enhanced global mobility solutions.
