From the Moon Landing, The Beatles, Elvis, Royal Weddings to Live Aid, Intelsat has delivered for almost 60 years iconic broadcast moments to millions of viewers around the world. Demonstrating its broadcast prowess by delivering live programming of TV5MONDE’s La Piste de la Francophone to French communities living around the world – in large cities and in remote areas, all united by a common culture and language.
Leveraging the power of Intelsat’s reliable, global satellite network, the broadcast of this year’s La Piste de la Francophonie reached on December 12th 432 million French-speaking households worldwide – more people than ever before who could enjoy an exceptional viewing experience. With this year focusing on environmental issues, the 19-hour live broadcast from a record number of 17 locations across five continents aimed to raise awareness of the consequences of global warming, as well as highlight the mobilization and commitment of French-speaking communities.
With TV5MONDE’s main priority to ensure uninterrupted coverage, Intelsat developed a solution that connected all the 17 participating sites, seamlessly integrating the technology at a central location and allowing them to dynamically change video content feeds in real time. The power of Intelsat’s satellites, complemented by Intelsat teleports and fiber network, ensured uninterrupted connectivity with seamless rollover from one location to the next. Using blended connectivity, occasional use (OU) Service and dual-fiber infrastructure, Intelsat built in multiple forms of redundancy to mitigate potential dropped signals.
Bridging the digital divide by operating one of the world’s largest and most advanced satellite fleet and connectivity infrastructures, Intelsat enables people and their tools to speak over oceans, see across continents and listen through the skies to communicate, cooperate and coexist. Intelsat’s network of satellites and teleports is able to provide quality broadcast capabilities by using Intelsat’s Managed Media Services. This gives programmers an end-to-end distribution solution which alleviates network pressures allowing broadcasters to focus on providing the high-quality content experience viewers have come to expect.
This is the 3rd year Intelsat has participated in the Paris-based TV5Monde’s one-day, international event celebrating French-speaking communities separated by borders.
