In areas like Africa and the Caribbean, the combination of poverty and tropical weather create an environment that is ripe for the incubation and spread of communicable diseases.
Real-time satellite communications allows organizations like the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to more effectively manage potential public health issues in these regions of the world.
A core part of this is Intelsat General (IGC) providing connectivity to 17 CDC field offices in these areas, where it helps provide real-time data to promote health throughout developing countries by disseminating disease prevention and treatment information. A spot beam on Intelsat’s IS-25 satellite now serves all of the field offices, except the one in Guyana. This allows for easy monitoring and troubleshooting of the network and allows the field offices to share the downstream broadcast, providing more efficient communications for CDC scientists.
