Maritime Solutions

Delivering simple, seamless, secure broadband service.

Maritime Solutions

In the maritime sector, the demands for broadband connectivity are exploding. Routes are continually evolving. Operational, regulatory, passenger and crew requirements are putting added pressure on ship operators to provide reliable service throughout a vessel’s entire journey. Applications that monitor ship performance and keep charts updated are dramatically increasing bandwidth consumption.

As technology and user requirements continue to drive the expectations for connectivity, how can you ensure you have access to the capacity required to keep pace with growing demand?

Intelsat’s robust maritime solutions have been designed to support the demands of your most complex mobility applications. You can increase your operational efficiencies as well as access a wide portfolio of products to provide constant connectivity on board ship. Whether you build and maintain your own networks and only require space capacity or are looking for a fully managed solution, Intelsat provides you with optimum solutions for coverage, throughput, service delivery and economics.

Access Bandwidth When and Where It Is Needed

Our multi-layered C-band global coverage provides reliable connectivity around the world, rain or shine.

At Intelsat, we believe in enabling connectivity anywhere in the world. Our powerful C- and Ku-band global mobility beams provide you with always-on broadband connectivity that rivals any land-based networks. Automatic beam switching (ABS) allows for seamless transfer from one satellite to another while maintaining connectivity with continuous provisioning of the service.

Designed as an overlay to the existing networks, the Intelsat EpicNG platform uses focused spot beams in key maritime routes to meet your high throughput and performance needs. Intelsat EpicNG’s open architecture and backward compatibility provides you with improved performance over your existing hardware or the ability to customize your technology based on the application. It is also forward compatible with the next generation of light-weight, low-profile phased arrays antennas that Intelsat is developing with its partners.

Podcast: High-throughput Satellite Connectivity

Please listen to Andrew Faiola, in the 67th episode of the Shipping Podcast. Andrew is the Director, Mobility Solutions, Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia-Pacific at Intelsat and explains how High Throughput Satellites (HTS) and the Intelsat EpicNG satellite series will enhance connectivity and what that will mean to the maritime industry.

Leverage IntelsatOne® for Your Global Infrastructure or to Fill the Gaps in Your Existing Infrastructure

In addition to satellite connectivity, you can leverage Intelsat’s infrastructure to provide a range of managed services from teleport and hub operations to full end-to-end service. The IntelsatOne terrestrial network operates seamlessly with our satellite technology to support hybrid satellite and fiber connectivity, with access to multiple platforms and teleports. Our managed services simplify satellite-based communications, reduce network operations costs, and deliver the flexibility and support to meet your changing requirements.

Ensure Access to HTS Technology Wherever Your Customers Travel with IntelsatOne Flex for Maritime

IntelsatOne Flex for Maritime is a customizable wholesale Mbps service aggregates Intelsat’s prime space segment, the IntelsatOne terrestrial network and the HTS optimized iDirect Velocity® platform, into a simplified unified ecosystem. With IntelsatOne Flex, you can access bandwidth when and where it is needed without increasing capital expenditures for new capacity, infrastructure expansion and management.

Success Story

Intelsat and Marlink to Bring Affordable, High Speed Intelsat EpicNG Broadband Connectivity to Maritime Customers

Since 2014, Marlink has rolled out connectivity services via Intelsat’s Globalized Network which includes secure access to Intelsat’s global Ku-band capacity and terrestrially managed network, IntelsatOne. Marlink is now preparing to deliver a quantum improvement in throughput with Intelsat EpicNG. Maritime customers will be able to access high throughput satellite (HTS) services via Intelsat EpicNG over Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific following the launch of Intelsat 33e later in 2016.

Marlink’s new and existing customers will be able to leverage their innovative applications for vessel operations in addition to enhancing passenger and crew connectivity services over Intelsat satellites. The agreement enables Marlink to supplement its existing maritime VSAT services with the Intelsat EpicNG platform. Intelsat EpicNG is backwards compatible with Intelsat’s existing Ku-band and C-band network and will deliver higher throughput and power to enable the use of smaller terminals in the maritime sector. The “Intelsat EpicNG-ready” design of the Marlink network will enable maritime customers to cost effectively and seamlessly incorporate this higher throughput into their operations.
