Intelsat IPTV is sold on a wholesale basis to distributors and integrators who are recognized specialists in IPTV integration. They incorporate Intelsat IPTV into customized end-to-end IPTV solutions that are marketed to regional telecom companies, cable system operators and other last-mile video service providers.
Satellites
The IPTV distribution platform uses C-band capacity on two satellites, Galaxy 13 and Galaxy 23, both popular cable distribution satellites within Intelsat’s industry-leading Galaxy Neighborhood that reach nearly 7,500 cable headends.
DVB-S2 modulation is used to improve the efficiency of transponder throughput.
Super Headend
The Super Headend and uplink facilities are located at Intelsat’s Mountainside Teleport.
At the Super Headend, TV programming is first acquired in MPEG-2 format and then decoded. The programming is then re-encoded in MPEG-4 and encrypted. After this, the individual channels are multiplexed and encapsulated into large IP streams uplinking to the satellite and delivery to the last-mile video service providers who downlink the IP stream for distribution into their local subscriber-based systems.
TV Channels
Distributors and integrators can offer their last-mile provider customers a bouquet of more than 200 video channels plus additional audio channels, encoded in MPEG-4. The distributors and integrators are responsible for securing the necessary rights associated with the repackaging and delivery of the programming.
Service Availability
The service is easily accessible throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
