GlobeCast Secures Capacity with Intelsat for Occasional Use Global Contribution Services

Pembroke, Bermuda, and Paris, France, 9 September 2009

Intelsat, the world’s leading provider of fixed satellite services, announced it signed a contract with GlobeCast, a leading content management and delivery company, for occasional use (OU) capacity that spans Intelsat’s entire satellite fleet. The multi-year contract offers GlobeCast increased satellite transmissions infrastructure to fulfill its customer needs for distribution of live sports, breaking news and special events.

Recognizing the increased demand from broadcasters and content service providers for global distribution of special events, Intelsat has dedicated approximately 140 transponders across its entire fleet specifically to be used for OU services.

Growing demand for HD services was a key driver for GlobeCast’s investment in this capacity, which will allow GlobeCast to service even more clients with top-notch sports and news coverage. In addition to transmission, GlobeCast provides ground services, including SNGs and flyaways, crewing and playout from around the globe.

“Customers such as GlobeCast rely on Intelsat to have capacity ready to fulfill their broadcast distribution needs for global events,” said Jean-Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s Regional Vice President, Europe & Middle East. “Intelsat’s continued investment in our OU business directly speaks to our commitment to ensuring that customers always have access to a global transmissions infrastructure. This year, we are on track to handle over 120,000 OU feeds throughout our network.”

Intelsat will be exhibiting in Hall 1, Stand C71 and GlobeCast will be in Hall 1, Stand B40 at IBC 2009, the international tradeshow for professionals involved in the creation, management and delivery of content for the broadcasting industry, which is being held at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 11-15 September.
