Intelsat Ltd., the world's leading provider of commercial satellite services, announced today that Detecon Al Saudia Co. Ltd. has signed a multi-year agreement with Intelsat to distribute Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service to its maritime customers.
Detecon Al Saudia, a German-Saudi Arabian joint venture telecommunications and IT company, will provide its cargo vessel and oil rig customers in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East region, Intelsat's Network Broadband Global Maritime service offering "always-on" broadband access enabling vessels to stay connected regardless of fleet location.
“Providing our customers with always-on connectivity, which is a hallmark of Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service, and enabling them to connect their offices to remote production operations and cargo vessels is paramount to their business success in an era in which on-demand continuous communications are required,” said Dr. Harald W. Stange, Director of Business Unit, Information and Communication Technology, Detecon Al Saudia.
“Intelsat's Network Broadband Global Maritime service will enable voice services and data transfers for Detecon Al Saudia customers,” said Jay Yass, Intelsat’s Vice President, Network Services. “Additionally, our platform will meet Detecon Al Saudia’s customers’ communications requirements for bandwidth intensive applications, such as video conferencing and large data transfers.”
Intelsat's Network Broadband Global Maritime platform, an offering within Intelsat's GlobalConnex portfolio of services, features an integrated Automatic Beam Switching system, which seamlessly transfers service between satellites and maintains a site's Internet session while the vessel is underway, eliminating the need for complex and costly manual intervention such as the re-pointing of antennas. It uses capacity on three ocean-region satellites: IS-605 at 174 degrees E, IS-707 at 307 degrees E and IS-906 at 64 degrees E. Likewise, primary hubs at Intelsat's Fuchsstadt and Riverside teleports and backup hubs at Intelsat's Mountainside and Atlanta teleports round out the seamless global network, which is unrivaled by other offerings in the industry.
