Rádio e Televisão de Portugal Goes Global With Intelsat

Pembroke, Bermuda, 6 September 2007

Intelsat, Ltd., the world's leading provider of commercial satellite services, continues to set the pace for the globalization of content by distributing Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) programming throughout the Americas, Europe and Africa.

The Portuguese public service broadcaster signed a multi-year, multi-transponder deal with Intelsat for standard definition transmission services of its programming via three Intelsat satellites. RTP will use the Intelsat 907 satellite located at 332.5°E for Africa distribution of both RTP Africa and RTP Internacional programming, the Intelsat 805 satellite located at 304.5°E for its RTP Internacional programming distribution in North, Central and South America and the Galaxy 28 satellite located at 89°W for DTH distribution in Brazil of its RTP Internacional programming.

“Globalization of content is a significant trend in our business, and Intelsat works closely with broadcasters to give them access wherever they see an opportunity to grow,” said Jean Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s Regional Vice President, Europe & Middle East Sales. “We continue to be in the forefront of satellite-enabled global video transmissions, working hand-in-hand with our customers to ensure their business needs are met, whether it is standard or high definition content delivery.”
