- What markets does Intelsat serve?
Intelsat operates in almost every country in the world serving the telecom, broadcast, government and other communications markets. With optimized capacity on a combined fleet of 53 satellites and a large, complementary terrestrial infrastructure including eight owned teleports, fiber connectivity and more than 50 points of presence in almost 40 cities. This global terrestrial infrastructure enables us to deliver services that combine satellite capacity, teleport operations, satellite communications platforms, cable and other ground facilities for integrated, end-to-end telecommunications solutions. We operate our global communications infrastructure through network centers staffed by multilingual and knowledgeable employees hailing from approximately 70 different countries.

Twenty-two thousand miles above the fray, Intelsat satellites are positioned to deliver on almost every expectation of our customers. Our network is young and healthy and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to provide seamless, high-quality and cost-effective communications transmissions to customers around the world. Most of all, Intelsat provides its customers the peace of mind to know that a reliable and stable network operator is behind them.
In addition to simply offering connectivity, Intelsat also offers its customers a full and expanding portfolio of managed solutions; this means that Intelsat not only assembles the network and manages each separate component to ensure a high-quality service for customers, but manages the transmissions going over it as well.
Additionally, Intelsat hosts a number of annual worldwide events that seek to educate and train customers or potential satellite communications users about satellites, satellite technology, equipment and network build-out. We train customers and others, including those who are not "satellite savvy" regularly to facilitate their understanding of satellites and related technology.
Intelsat also conducts educational seminars throughout the year in different global regions. Topics covered in these seminars include: how to best assemble an appropriate network to keep costs down, how network equipment works, how to best configure or manipulate equipment to best suit requirements, use of modems, routers and other equipment, and how to reconfigure existing equipment to suit a new service offering. Additionally, Intelsat provides technical support surrounding the education, including: designing complete networks, calculating space segment requirements, hardware and antenna consultation, securing vendors and on-site consulting.
Intelsat also conducts a number of worldwide "Intelsat Connections Conferences" and other customer events during the course of a year. During these events, held in Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America and Europe, Intelsat discusses and presents new technology, industry trends and any recent developments that affect the region. In addition, in-house and guest speakers are secured to present relevant information to attendees and answer their questions, technical or otherwise.
- Does Intelsat have anything new in the works?
Intelsat is continuing to transform itself from a satellite service provider to a full-service end-to-end communications provider. Rather than strictly offering wholesale satellite capacity, we now offer fully managed solutions that include connectivity in addition to complete network management and operation. This is a new offering from Intelsat and one that we believe offers our customers a tremendous amount of added value.
- What is the company's strategy going forward?
Our goal is to be a global connectivity leader connecting people and businesses around the world with high-quality, flexible and innovative communications services. We intend to sustain our more than 40-year leadership position in the fixed satellite services sector by building on our existing capabilities to grow our business.
Generally, we intend to focus on the video, government and corporate network customer segments by expanding our managed service offerings and utilizing our global, hybrid infrastructure. We also intend to sustain our leadership position in the voice & data customer segments by developing new applications such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and focusing on niche markets such as connectivity services for wireless operators in certain regions.
We believe that our strategy will allow us to strengthen our core operations and maximize our ability to capitalize on new and emerging growth trends in our industry.
