| Test at 2012 Summer Olympics Helps Move Carrier ID Closer to Reality |

Intelsat Interference Mitigation Initiative (I3) reaches new milestone as activities progress
Every four years, the Olympics draw a global audience unmatched by other events. Intelsat has worked with sports organizations to deliver the Olympics since 1968, and the number of broadcasters and demand for content for global distribution continues to grow.
This made the London Games the perfect opportunity to trial Digital Carrier Identification technology, more commonly known as Carrier ID. This technology acts as a stamp on uplink signals that will enable satellite operators to more efficiently trace the source of transmissions to their satellites and accelerate coordination with earth station operators in the event of signal interference.
Two versions of Carrier ID were used – Network Identification Table (NIT) and the proposed Comtech Carrier ID method. Fortunately, Intelsat did not need to use the ID capability to resolve an interference issue, but Carrier ID was available for the duration of the Olympics and demonstrated its benefit.
Perhaps most important was that the proposed Comtech Carrier ID technology was successfully demonstrated on active traffic-bearing carriers, and is now slated to be approved by the Digital Video Broadcasting Project as a standard in October.
In conjunction with the Carrier ID test, Intelsat announced recently it has helped the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) deliver operator training to more than 1,000 technicians, including our customers across the globe. The training is offered as one of several elements of the Intelsat Interference Mitigation Initiative (I3), an effort aimed at reducing radio frequency interference.
As a founding member of the Space Data Association, Intelsat continues to lead the industry in mitigating signal interference and space situational awareness. Toby Nassif, Intelsat’s Vice President, Satellite Operations and Engineering, was recently named the group’s chairman.
