Intelsat recently acquired the remaining equity of the New Dawn Satellite Company Ltd., and the joint venture’s satellite, renaming the spacecraft Intelsat 28.
Located at 33° East, the satellite was launched in April 2011 to provide Africa with new capacity for voice, wireless backhaul, fixed line and wireless infrastructure, broadband and media services.
Intelsat 28 also hosts a Ku-band MCPC media platform in partnership with GlobeCast. The platform is based on DVB-S2 modulation and MPEG-4 compression technology, and can be received with sub-1 meter antennas in much of its coverage area. Intelsat currently operates 23 satellites that provide capacity to Africa. |
