Intelsat Announces Seventh Consecutive Year of Charitable Involvement with TeleFood Campaign

For the seventh consecutive year, Intelsat is supporting the fight against hunger by providing satellite capacity for the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) global solidarity concerts. The concert, called “Musica vs. Hambre,” is part of FAO’s annual worldwide TeleFood campaign dedicated to helping to reduce the number of hungry people in the world. FAO is one of the largest specialized agencies in the United Nations system and is the lead agency for agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural development. Intelsat is donating satellite capacity to enable a live broadcast of the concert throughout targeted countries in Latin America.

TeleFood is FAO’s annual campaign of broadcasts, concerts and other events around the world aimed at reaching out and raising awareness about hunger in order to mobilize resources for hundreds of community-based hunger-fighting projects. To date, TeleFood has generated close to US$19 million in donations and funded 2,137 projects in 127 countries.

The TeleFood campaign centers around the observance of World Food Day, marking the founding of FAO on October 16, 1945.
