Intelsat Announces Seventh Consecutive Year of Charitable Involvement with TeleFood Campaign

Rome, Italy, Washington, D.C., September 20, 2006

For the seventh consecutive year, Intelsat is supporting the fight against hunger by providing satellite capacity for the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) global solidarity concerts. The concert, called “Musica vs. Hambre,” is part of FAO’s annual worldwide TeleFood campaign dedicated to helping to reduce the number of hungry people in the world. FAO is one of the largest specialized agencies in the United Nations system and is the lead agency for agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural development. Intelsat is donating satellite capacity to enable a live broadcast of the concert throughout targeted countries in Latin America.

The concert will take place in Asuncion, Paraguay on Thursday September 21, 2006. Information on the concert and artists featured can be found at

“Since the launch of the TeleFood campaign in 1997, Intelsat’s generosity and support have not only helped to guarantee the global dimension of the events, it has also enabled FAO to raise greater awareness and mobilize the generosity of millions of people on the urgency of the hunger problem,” said Hervé Lejeune, Assistant Director-General/Special Adviser, Office of World Food Summit Follow-up and Alliances. “FAO appreciates very much Intelsat’s sensibility to such humanitarian issues which has always been critical to us. FAO wishes to thank Intelsat for its support.”

TeleFood is FAO’s annual campaign of broadcasts, concerts and other events around the world aimed at reaching out and raising awareness about hunger in order to mobilize resources for hundreds of community-based hunger-fighting projects. To date, TeleFood has generated close to US$19 million in donations and funded 2,137 projects in 127 countries.

Dianne VanBeber, Intelsat Vice President Investor Relations and Corporate Communications, said, “The Intelsat system, with 51 satellites serving over 200 countries and territories, is ideally suited to support special events such as Musica vs. Hambre anywhere on earth. Intelsat is very pleased that we can again play a part in this extremely worthwhile effort.”

The TeleFood campaign centers around the observance of World Food Day, marking the founding of FAO on October 16, 1945.
