Pembroke, Bermuda, 3 March 2009

Intelsat Ltd., the world’s leading provider of fixed satellite services, announced that Detecon Al Saudia Co. Ltd. (DETASAD) signed a multi-year contract for Ku-band capacity on Intelsat’s new satellite, IS-15 which will be located at 85ºE when it is launched later this year.

DETASAD, a German-Saudi Arabian joint venture telecommunications and IT company, will use this capacity to provide additional Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) transmission services to its small and medium enterprise, government and maritime customers throughout the Middle East.

“We chose to lease capacity on the IS-15 because in our view, it will be the highest performing satellite in the Middle East region. This contract will support our strategy to provide our clients satellite services with the best power and bandwidth solutions, offering flexible, high data rate satellite links using antennas that are as small as possible. We will also be able to support the latest modulation technologies such as DVB-S2, ACM and LDPC,” said Dr. Harald Stange, Director, Information and Communication Technology, DETASAD. “This additional satellite capacity is another milestone for us, responding to our growing market share in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It will support our services to our oil and gas, enterprise and government customers.”

“Our IS-15 satellite will serve a strategic role within our fleet, providing our customers such as DETASAD much needed Ku-band transmission services throughout the Middle East, Russia and the Indian Ocean region,” said Jean-Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s Regional Vice President, Europe and Middle East.

Under a separate contract signed in June 2008, DETASAD became a distributor of Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service. DETASAD’s maritime customers will benefit from Intelsat’s service that offers an always-on, true broadband connection and automatic beam switching technology for a flat monthly fee.

Intelsat and DETASAD will be exhibiting in Hall 3, Stand B3-1 and in Hall 2, Stand A3-25, respectively at CABSAT MENA 2009, the leading tradeshow for the digital media industry in the Middle East region, which is being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, 3 – 5 March.
