GXS Telecom

Worldwide Network and Ground Infrastructure

Flexibility and speed

GXS Telecom is a state-of-the-art network integrating a worldwide ground infrastructure of teleports, 6 PoPs in strategic traffic exchange points, multi-homing Tier 1 IP Nodes and seamless fiber connections with path diversity. The network is integrated with our global fleet of 53 satellites to provide services that enable service providers the delivery of voice, data, video and IP applications to users in developed or underserved areas around the world – with ease, reliability and economic efficiencies.

Services Enabled

  • Network broadband
  • Internet Trunking
  • International Private Line
  • WiFi and VPN extensions
  • VoIP

Technical Features

The GXS Telecom network is based on telco-grade bandwidth switches

  • Providing flexibility via rapid network re-configuration functionality
  • Automatic re-routing in the event of circuit failures

Juniper router-based backbone IP network

  • Each PoP and teleport has a pair of backbone routers for added redundancy
  • IP backbone optimizes traffic for hand-off to IP providers

Three tier one Internet service providers (ISPs) used for resiliency

  • UUNet, Level3, Teleglobe
  • These multiple providers are “met” in multiple locations

Multiple bandwidth providers are utilized

  • Ensuring diversity of both supplier and bearer cable routing
  • Each teleport and PoP has diverse cable entry points

Each teleport has uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems and stand-by generators

  • Typically, teleports have sufficient fuel capacity for 8 days generator us at full power load
  • Intelsat’s PoPs (industry-leading third party “meet me” facilities) have UPS and generators

GXS network architecture designed from the outset following industry best practice for engineering and operations

  • Network operated with strict guidelines for user access (AAA), configuration and change control
  • Enhanced by out-of-band management network and proactive approach to mitigate vulnerabilities

The network uses best of breed security technology to protect from internal and external threats

  • The GXS network engineers have a set of tools to helps customers troubleshoot security incidents, including DOS attacks
  • IP firewalls and encryption protocols such as SSH and IPSEC facilitate secure access of applications

Network architecture security features

  • Access to infrastructure is secured by Radius and TACACS+
  • Separate computer systems for configuration, fault and performance management
  • Intrusion detection system
  • Firewalls to protect DMZ segments with public access
  • Secure router configuration templates used on every installation
