Intelsat Completes First Dual Satellite Launch
On 24 August 2016, Intelsat successfully launched IS-33e and IS-36.
IS-33e is the second of the Intelsat EpicNG high-throughput satellite fleet. This satellite brings high-throughput capacity in both C- and Ku-band to the Africa, Europe, Middle East, and Asia regions. The IS-33e payload delivers carrier-grade services to fixed and mobile network operators, and broadband for applications such as enterprise, aeronautical and maritime mobility, and government.
IS-36 is designed to enhance Intelsat’s media neighborhoods serving Africa and the Indian Ocean regions, and is co-located with IS-20 at 68.5° E. The Ku-band payload supports MultiChoice, the leading direct-to-home platform in South Africa, and the C-band payload provides in-orbit resilience for Intelsat’s leading video content distribution neighborhood.
